Throughout my career, I have transformed communications into a strategic leadership function that protects an organization's reputation while building trust with employees, stakeholders, the media, and the communities we serve.As Deputy Chief of Communications and spokesperson for the School District of Philadelphia, I have helped reshape how the District tells its story. Working alongside Superintendent Tony B. Watlington, Sr., I shifted our communications strategy from one that was largely reactive to one that is proactive, transparent, and relationship-driven. My focus has been simple: tell our story before someone else does.That strategy has strengthened the Superintendent's visibility throughout Philadelphia while positioning the District as a trusted source of information. By cultivating strong relationships with local and national media, community leaders, elected officials, faith leaders, and external stakeholders, I have significantly expanded opportunities to highlight student achievement, educator excellence, and District innovation.Under my leadership, the Media Relations Team has increased positive news coverage, secured national media placements with CNN, Good Morning America, NBC News, Fox Weather, The Washington Post, The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, USA Today, Education Week, K-12 Dive, and many others. During the District's facilities planning process, our strategic media engagement contributed to the most balanced public coverage the District had received in years, including multiple favorable editorials.I believe communications should be both strategic and human.
